Cannabis Retreat for Women
Ladies Love Mary Jane Retreat
Who would have thought I would ever go to a Cannabis retreat for women, never mind one called “Ladies Love Mary Jane Retreat”. I am not a stranger to cannabis as it was easy to find when I went to high school. But back then we never knew about the medical benefits. Prior to the event, I made lots of excuses about the cost, how far it was away but so many people raved about it I just went for it. This event may have been my first, but I have already said I will be going to the next event in May. Who would have thought of how relaxing it would be to hang out with a bunch of women, share stories, learn more about edibles and topicals, paint, sit around the fire and make new friends. Cannabis is still very much stigmatised and this is the ONLY event that I know of that offers both education and a setting where everyone is smoking, vaping or eating Cannabis. It gives women the opportunity to open up and talk about their conditions and why they chose Cannabis. Many of them opened up and spoke about their Cancer journey, several had serious car accidents. Every woman there had a story and felt safe talking about it. Some women are still experiencing problems with family and friends who question their use of Cannabis. I go to every Cannabis expo in Ontario, and nothing can match what I experienced and learned on this weekend. Where else can you be shown how to make edibles and be able to try them. Learning more about Cannabis strains, and how to make bath salts and lotions. But the event is not just Cannabis related, there are workshops that provide laughter, and a little artistic fun (PUFF PUFF PAINT) and campfire chats. Ladies Love Mary Jane Retreat November 2019 included:
is a company based out of Toronto. Tracey the owner, is a Certified Natural Health Practitioner. She offers handmade natural cosmetics, aromatherapy and cosmetic making supplies including organic ingredients, 500+ ethically sourced essential oils, and dozens of clays, oils, micas, packaging and housewares that are alternatives to plastics, and other Earth and people-friendly goodies. Her workshops included making medicated bath salts and provided a lot of information about aromatherapy. She was thrilled to be involved in the event and was available all weekend for her workshops and questions.
Before I describe the workshop, I should introduce the woman behind the business. Tamara is the “nose” behind Canna Lily Consulting and speaks at high end events like O’Canna Biz . For those who are not familiar with her name or her talent as a Sommelier, she is one of less than 10,000 people worldwide to hold a Cannabis Sommelier Certification. Tamara was recently selected from 25000 applicants to serve as a member of the world’s first Cannabis Curator Committee (www.ahlot.ca/ccc) .
When the general public or media talks about Cannabis we only hear about THC and CBD. Tamara, with her vast knowledge, teaches about terpenes and how to use our nose to find the right strain to use. The wine industry depends on Sommelier experts to educate people, and Tamara does it with Cannabis by educating people on how important terpenes are. It really opened our eyes and nose to how to select a good strain. We learned that it takes a lot of experimenting to find out a strain that works for you. We were taught that everyone has a unique endocannabinoid system and not one strain fits all. She also offers professional cooking class where you can become a certified Cannabis chef or just take a cooking course with Cannabis. Save me a seat.
Cannabis retreat for women learn how to cook with Cannabis
Reena Rampersad is very well known for her cooking skills and here knowledge of cooking with Cannabis. I was very excited about her workshop as I have seen her in action before. Reena did not disappoint the audience, and the amazing corn fritters with a medicated apple sauce got rave reviews. There was an eager line up of women wanting to try it. Reena has been written about in numerous articles regarding her High Society Supper Club. The best part of learning about edibles, is finding out how easy it is to ingest medicine instead of smoking it. Knowing that Cannabis can be put in gravies, used in oil to cook food in rather than eating just brownies and gummies. Reena takes it to a “higher” level (pardon the pun) but she does not disappoint and got people thinking about what they could infuse at home.
Puff Puff Paint: I loved this workshop as there was no format. Just paint with no inhibitions. As you can see, none of us are true artists but it was so much fun. It was great to see generations of family at this event. They are the mother and one of the daughters of the event organiser, Charlene. I wonder if anyone can figure out which paintings I did. I got a little carried away and I am sure if anyone came to my house they would think it was done by one of my grand children.

Reviews from happy ladies who attended Ladies Love Mary Jane Retreat
“What an awesome time hanging out with all you sisters! So much to do, in what always seems like too little time (fireside chitchats, moon howling, aromatherapy, laughter medicine, cooking, drumming, dancing, shining things up, irish coffee wake n bake, eating with my peeps, high tea, painting, breathing, foodgasms, catching up, and meeting more lovely women who share so much more in common that it becomes comical as well as comforting…and remembering names lol).
Thanks again Charlene Freedom for inviting me to be a part of such an awesome (much needed) retreat with you all.
PEACE SISTERS!!! 😘”
“I highly recommend going to a retreat. It will be a life changer. Met so Many amazing women, laughed, ate and learned.”
“Ladies. I just want to say how fortunate I was to be told about Charlene Freedom to learn about her courses AND the amazing retreat. I made excuses about not going, that there would be another and finally I told that little voice in my head “YOUR NOT GETTING ANY YOUNGER CHICKIE” To be surrounded by so many like minded people in one place. Through Charlene we have the opportunity to connect as a unique tribe. We have so much to learn from one another. The workshops provided so much information. The food was amazing, the volunteers gave their heart and soul, and I met the most amazing people. I want to bring my daughter as I saw Charlene Freedom with her family and I thought what a great way to bond. I am booking early as I know 2020 will be even better and will sell out fast.”

History of the Cannabis retreat for women
Before Cannabis was legalized in Canada, Charlene Freedom, a very well known women in the Cannabis industry decided to offer a retreat just for women. She called it Ladies love Mary Jane retreat and held at Mansfield Outdoor Centre, the first event was on September 8th, 2017. It proved to be so successful that a second event was organised and held on February 2nd, 2018. It is now offered twice a year. With only word of mouth advertising, the event has attracted hundreds of guests, workshops leaders and sponsors. Every guest is given a swag bag donated by various companies. What a great way to promote a business, by donating to groups of women who are eager to learn about new products. Where else can you get the attention of so many women in one place who are looking for solutions or new products. Women from all walks of life and cities, attend the events for education that they can not find anywhere else. It also offers women the opportunity to share their health stories and how Cannabis has helped them with their medical conditions. The event starts on a Friday (late afternoon) and continues till Sunday afternoon. Not only can you camp there at the Spring events, you are well looked after when it comes to meals. They cater to vegan, vegetarian, meat eaters and a variety of intolerances to foods or allergies.
