Insurance company discrimination
How would you feel if you woke up to a call from your Insurance company to tell you that they will no longer insure you because you are growing Cannabis in your home? You explain that you have a prescription from your doctor, and a CMPR from Health Canada to grow for medical purposes. They still say NO. You offer to bring in an electrician to prove that all your equipment is SAFE and they say no. Then you continue to explain that if you can not grow your own medication it will affect your health, and for many people they could die. And they still say NO. This is Insurance company discrimination.
Now your a Licensed producer/grower and you phone that same company and they say YES. Please explain to the thousands of Canadians who are being discriminated against.
Desjardin Insurance posted their assets and surplus earnings. The insurance industry is making trillions of dollars but chooses to discriminate who they give insurance too. The people who are applying for insurance have had insurance for 20+ years and have not been deemed high risk. Licensed producers are not deemed high risk, nor micro growers.
I went to Starbucks the other day. It is a great place to have conversations with strangers. Right in the middle of my conversation, a local Fire Department car drove up with these decals on it. I had to Google to see the statistics forhome fires.

Cooking is the #1 cause of home fires
So having read these “HOT” statistics, I have to ask the Insurance Bureau of Canada why they are not revoking or refusing insurance of anyone with a kitchen. Is that not where the most fires start? Would you refuse insurance for a person who has oxygen in their home for their medical condition? If you Google Insurance Industry and Cannabis there are many companies that will insure you if you are a a business. So it is NOT the plant that is the risk, it is the people who are growing it? Can you get insurance if your grow orchids in your home, or start your vegetable and flowers inside? The days of grow ops are long gone. The people who grow Cannabis for medical purposes have educated themselves. They have invested thousands of dollars on extraction fans, tents, lights, soil, seeds and all the nutrients that are required. THIS is their medicine. It is not a hobby like beer or wine making. Insurance companies are scrambling to get the business of micro cultivators
A petition has been set up on change.org to pressure Insurance companies to stop Insurance company discrimination. This is for the thousands of Canadians who were given the right to grow their own medicine

Medical users have hit many roadblocks, prior and after legalization. Maybe it is time to hire John Conroy.
John Conroy, (a lawyer) has made a name for himself as the lawyer who will fight for your rights and win. He was successful with the famous Allard decision which allowed Medical Cannabis users the ability to grow their own medicine. His latest battle in the courts is to allow more THC levels in edibles for medical use. Why should Cannabis be treated any differently? If a patient requires a medication for a certain amount of a drug, it should never be challenged by the Government. Now medical users are fighting for the right to grow in their homes and be insured.
Please sign this petition. Insurance company discrimination must be stopped. A petition is the first step, then the Human Rights Commission and a go fund me page to hire John Conroy.
