I lost my job what do I do??
It was a normal morning. I got in early as per usual. Made the coffee for the other people in the office. Everyone started coming in, grabbing a coffee and going to their desks. Then I was called in to the office by the Office Manager. There were talks about lay offs with some of the temps that had been hired for a major project. I knew it could not be me as I had always come in early, worked weekends when asked, worked through my lunch and really gave my heart and soul. I could tell from the Manager’s face that the news wasn’t great. They told me that they were letting people go as the project was winding up and there was nothing on the horizon. I asked if anyone was being kept, and he simply said, I do not know how they did the selection process but some of the workers were being kept. I lost my job what do I do? My heart sunk, it was just before Christmas. I never thought after all that I had done for this Company that they would choose this time to let me go. The sad thing, it wasn’t the first time. I had been laid off before and there just wasn’t a lot of jobs that paid well and were local. Plus I was not considered a spring chicken anymore. Can anyone relate to that? I found out later that it was not because of my lack of experience. It was keeping on other people who were related or that some one knew from another company. How heartbreaking is that. Knowing that it did not matter how hard you worked, that you had more experience, never late, worked over time and through your lunch time. It really hurt.
I walked around the office and said my good byes. One girl said to me, with your experience I don’t know why you don’t start your own business. I looked at her and thought to myself..easy for you to say. Your job is safe. I was very bitter. I packed up my personal items and went home and broke the news to my husband. After a few weeks I started thinking about what this girl had said to me.
I lost my job over 4 years ago but it feels like yesterday – so what did I do??
Work from Home Computer training
I went and took some training courses on computers and decided I would start a home based computer training business. I was the person that everyone came to at work when the printer would not work, or wanted to learn more about Excel, etc. I was surprised how many people were interested when I started to advertise, and then the word of mouth happened and I was very busy. For over two years I went to peoples homes and taught them only what they wanted to learn. Researching genealogy on the Internet, learning how to use Quickbooks (for small business) finding old friends through searches, learning about chat rooms and generally learn how the Internet worked.
Online dating business
Then one day I realized that a lot of people were using the Internet to try to find new friends and dates. That lead to my next business. I literally said to myself if one of these businesses did better than the other, I would quit the other one. I had no idea how to build a website, but I found someone who did, and they built me my first website. Over the years I found developers, web designers, logo designers and my business grew Internationally. It was amazing to see people from all over the world, paying for my service in a company I started in my spare bedroom. I still own this business and it is managed now which gave me a lot of time to learn even more on the Internet. Which lead to business #3
Blogging as a Home Business
I started to notice a lot of Blogs popping up, and then reading how they were actually being paid. I researched a lot and found out about businesses called Network Marketing and Affiliate Marketing. Affiliate marketing for example, is when companies like Amazon pay me a commission when I advertise their books on my blog. I sent my customers through a special link on my website and when the person buys I get PAID. Network Marketing is when you use a service or product and recommend it to friends, family, co workers and visitors to your website and you get paid commissions, bonuses, win trips and much more.
Learn how to work from home
Back to the blogging. I started following some of the leading bloggers, and affiliate marketers which lead me to a course on how to start a Halloween store. I bought the course, and was literally frozen with fear as I had never paid that much money for a course online. But I tucked in and through all my sweat and tears, and hard work, I made the money back in ONE MONTH. I was hooked. I started building more and more blogs on all sorts of subjects which led to business #4
Health and Wellness Industry
I read a quote somewhere that said “What is Wealth worth without Health”, and the other quote about “no person on their death bed wishes they had more money. Most of them worked themselves to an early grave because they did not look after their health and would do anything to get it back. I ate badly, gained a ton of weight, was not sleeping well, my skin was horrible and I was miserable as well. Someone talked me into going to one of those BNI breakfast meetings. I went and my life changed that day. I sat beside this really nice guy who had brought a book to this meeting. There were tons of people with before and after shots of themselves. I jokingly asked him where his was. OMG, half of that man was sitting beside me, and looking amazingly healthy. That was the beginning and 4 years later here I am doing this business and CHANGING LIVES just like this man is still doing. I heard one lady at an Entrepreneurs event and she said..you know I could be selling candles, pots and pans, skin creams or spices, but when I started in the Health Business I realized I am part of a massive movement that actually CHANGES peoples lives forever. I could not agree more. That is why I do what I do. Businesses that are not life changing are great for a hobby, but Health businesses are the ones that make a massive impact and people come back for more as they want to live longer.
I am too old to start a Home Business
I hear that one every day. What if you heard the story about one of our most successful people who started in his 60’s? Or the couples who started before they retired when they learned that their pension would not support their lifestyle. They had plans to travel more, visit all the places on their bucket list but their pension would only support their basic needs. Can’t teach an old dog new tricks? Watch me. I train people every day. I want you to look at the income you will have when you retire and ask yourself if you deserve better. And if you say Yes, let’s chat.
I will NEVER get laid off again, my life is secure in knowing that I am training other people to have better lives. The life they deserve, not the one they were given.
I hope more people will join me and learn how to start a Home Business.
