Mike Harcourt Medical Cannabis debate
Who does this guy think he is? I just read the latest news who is claiming that grown adults are incapable of making their own decisions. I am sorry Mike Harcourt, aren’t these the same grown adults that voted for you?
This article says “Harcourt calls dispensary cannabis “dangerous,” while the chemicals he speaks of are also found in local produce.” If Mike Harcourt wants to talk about the dangers he should not look any further than the drugs we can legally be prescribed at a pharmacy now. Lets talk about Fentanyl, a drug I am very familiar with as it KILLED my sister. Her doctor knew the side effects, and her health history but ignored them and gave it to her anyway. The Fentanyl was given to her in a patch form which self administers the drug. It gave her a FATAL overdose. It is It is 80 to 500 times stronger than morphine. Why was she prescribed? Are you ready for this? She had bunion surgery and experienced a lot of pain after wards. The Police and Ambulance crew who arrived at her apartment thought she was a Cancer patient when they saw the patch. This Doctor was a grown adult who made a very fatal decision to prescribe a highly addictive and powerful drug. So what were you saying again Mike Harcourt? I guess the 655 deaths up to 2015 because of overdoses across Canada for just this particular drug is acceptable. Dangerous chemicals in cannabis?
Harcourt calls dispensary cannabis “dangerous,” while the chemicals he speaks of are also found in local produce. “Licenses are a means of control. Government regulations empower bureaucracy at the expense of consumer sovereignty.” We agree with this statement and also the intent of politicians as far as where everyone will be able to buy Cannabis. He is leaning towards Licensed Producers.
On the topic of dangerous chemicals. Did you consider the dangerous chemicals that are used on our vegetables, and fruits. Dangerous chemicals that have contributed to millions of people who are sick or dying.
According to this website
The World Health Organization reports 220,000 people die every year worldwide because of pesticide poisoning.
Meanwhile we have Politicians and Task Forces combing over the Cannabis industry with a much finer comb than they do for Legally Prescribed Drugs. So in all honesty who is calling the pot black. If you want to protect our younger generation then pay more attention to the street drugs or the “legal” drugs that Doctors. The drugs that have full FDA approval that are highly addictive and many of the side effects are DEATH. Educate our family doctors so that they can live up to the old Hippocratic Oath:
Definition of Hippocratic Oath. Hippocratic Oath: One of the oldest binding documents in history, the Oath written by Hippocrates is still held sacred by physicians: to treat the ill to the best of one’s ability, to preserve a patient’s privacy, to teach the secrets of medicine to the next generation, and so on. The Oath continues: “And I will use treatments for the benefit of the ill in accordance with my ability and my judgment, but from what is to their harm and injustice I will keep them.”
In other words, doctors should act in the best interests of their patients, and when unjust circumstances arise – for instance, a certain life-prolonging drug may not be available – they should strive to correct the injustice harming their patients.
In an age of technological developments, cosmetic surgery, complementary medicine, drug companies, and many other temptations for patients and doctors alike, the spirit of the Oath is as relevant as ever. Health Canada should know this and it is because of their breach of privacy that so many people are without medication now.
As I type this there are literally thousands of people who are buying their Medical Cannabis illegally because Doctors will not sign off on a prescription. I fully understand most family physicians are not educated in prescribing the right dosage etc and are sending patients to Cannabis clinics. But these Clinics are prescribing the medication and then faxing the prescription to a Licensed Producer. Is this not a monopoly? If a person needs a prescription in order for someone to grow for them under their own license they can’t, and they also can not apply to grow either. I am asking Politicians to talk to patients now. Find out what is going on NOW.
Stop the Propaganda now.
This is NOT an election. The issue at hand is not recreational marijuana, but the needs of medical marijuana patients. We are all adults Mike Harcourt, and many are sick and in pain. Show me the Statistics for deaths due to Marijuana. Maybe you should be concentrating more on Tobacco and Alcohol
