Truth About Cannabis – the lies that have been told since the 1990’s
Truth about Cannabis – why has the Government lied all these years? Everyone should watch the movie Grass The media hype, the posters, and the ridiculous claims.
Did you know that Cannabis/marijuana was outlawed in the early 1900’s? One man, Harry Anslinger decided that marijuana/Cannabis was more dangerous than Opiates. He was a United States government official who served as the first commissioner of the U.S. Treasury Department’s Federal Bureau of Narcotics. But he was also a supporter of prohibition and the criminalization of drugs, and played a pivotal role in cannabis prohibition.
Anslinger was quoted as saying:
By the tons it is coming into this country — the deadly, dreadful poison that racks and tears not only the body, but the very heart and soul of every human being who once becomes a slave to it in any of its cruel and devastating forms…. Marihuana is a short cut to the insane asylum. Smoke marihuana cigarettes for a month and what was once your brain will be nothing but a storehouse of horrid specters. Hasheesh makes a murderer who kills for the love of killing out of the mildest mannered man who ever laughed at the idea that any habit could ever get him.
Critics of Anslinger believe the campaign against marijuana had a hidden agenda, just like the present day. Not only do our Governments still write about the dangers of Cannabis, they have refused to make it legal even for Medical purposes even though there are thousands of medical studies to suggest otherwise. We are in the midst of an Opiate epidemic, but no one is talking about that.
But fast forward to 2018 and we are finally seeing it become legal in Canada for BOTH medical and recreational users. The kicker is, it was supposed to happen on July 1st and now it has been delayed (what a surprise)
Truth about Cannabis
The only way to implement change, is for individuals to educate themselves. Since the 1900’s we have had the media report lies and they still choose to do so. If a parent wanted more information on the subject they could find it through Google or Youtube. Parents should be having the conversation with their kids about drugs, just like they do for alcohol and sex education. But they should research it first, your kids should never know more than you do.
It is understandable that the Government has reservations on the subject of driving under the influence and how to police those who will be able to grow several plants legally. They also have concerns for local municipalities who will have to check that people are not growing more than they are allowed, and public complaints of smoking outside. This is something that the Liberal Government did not take enough time to research. But Justin Trudeau is going backwards when it comes to Medical patients.
Several Cannabis users have responded:
“Teens, and adults have been using Cannabis/marijuana for years, and we understand that there will be concerns about driving under the influence, and the operation of machinery. But like any law that has been put in place, there will always be someone who has no common sense, and they should be punished. We feel that the emphasis should be on getting the more dangerous drugs off the street. We have a crisis right now, and Cannabis legalisation has taken over the conversation. Your not doing anything to decrease the amount of addicts, or to getting illicit drugs off the street. We feel you should be making the Opiate crisis your major concern.”
“The Government lied to the public when they said they would legalise it. The Truth about Cannabis is they are increasing penalties and restricting use even more Have you read the restrictions? The highest penalty will be 14 years in jail. Medical patients who rent, may not be allowed to smoke their medication indoors, or in a public place. The Government has not made provisions for them.”
“As a patient I was so happy to hear about the legalisation. But now I am so confused. I can’t smoke Cannabis and can only have edibles, but they will not be legal till 2020. Where does Trudeau expect me to buy what I need? He is making me a criminal. Being sick with Cancer, constant anxiety, and money issues is not enough?”
People who are authorized to have and use medical cannabis will be subject to the same rules as tobacco smoking and electronic cigarette use.
Medical users will not be allowed to smoke or vape medical cannabis in enclosed workplaces, enclosed public places, motor vehicles and other smoke-free places, with a few exceptions.
On April 20th – 21st there will be an event held in Windsor, Ontario. Thousands of people will be coming to the event for a variety of reasons. On the 21st there will be speakers talking about how Cannabis has helped them. Several have had Cancer. The public is welcome to come out on the 21st, as it is being advertised as Education day, and get questions answered. There will be individuals who can advise them on how to get a prescription, the option to grow your own medication, the different ways you can take your medicine and much more.
